There are a few things to do at the Dole Plantation. We chose to go through a human maze. We were given a card and we had to find different hidden stations where there were stencils of different things we had to fill out on our cards. We then got some food, we got pineapple chili dogs (which are actually really good) and then pineapple icecream..it was aight.
This is our friend Eban, we met him in the maze..he tagged along with us and we got done alot faster! Then he came and ate with us after..his parents thought it would be good for him to hang out with college kids so that hed want to go to college too!

So this bike is known as the chaos. Grant got it for free, its a bike probably for a 12 yr old but it has pegs in the front and the back. the brakes dont work and you have to adjust the chain everytime (by banging it against the ground) to get it to work. we bum rides off him all the timeat hukilau cafe. notice that i am the only one who demolished their pancakes

I love how the ocean is very recreational. Theres always people on surfboards, paddle boards, kayaks, boogie boards, canoos (is that spelled right?), jetskies, going snorkling, or just swimming laps. The possibilities are endless !

Aloha from hawaii..or as the locals pronounce it ha-va-ee!
What an amazing place! So life is pretty good here. It is very laid back, and there is soo much to see and do. I love it here but it does scare me because I choose to play instead of study!! Why am I taking psychology again?? But its ok, I am comforted when I think of the profound advise that Mark gave me before I left....something like..dont worry if you fail your classes, your in hawaii!
I have to say that it is alot like texas, it gets really stinkin hot here (not as bad as texas) plus there are just as many bugs here as there are there. These bugs here are all on steroids though because they are alot bigger. I killed 4 cockroaches in one night (one being in my bed), a huge spider another night, there are slugs and centipedes around, huge toads that come out at night, and a wild boar that runs around in the woods behind our house. Plus the chickens and roosters that run loose all over town, and yes, you can hear them 5 a.m. every morning. It cools off in the mornings and nights alot more than texas and the beaches are clean compared to the dirty beach water in the dirty south. Sooo maybe it is a little bit different than texas.
The time change was a little hard to get used to..it is 5 hours behind Texas time. That meant I was going to bed at 9pm and waking up at 5am (with the roosters). I live right across the beach so I end up there everyday. So if anyone is planning a trip here..stay longer than a week or you will be drained! Hawaiians like to party, and the beach parks where you can camp (there is one across from my house) are always full of people just camping on the beach. So dont get a hotel if you come here, just bring a tent and you can stay for free while you are here!
I got a job as a lifeguard on campus. Work is good. Money is better. My hawaiian neighbors who live in the other part of our duplex are letting me use one of their bikes for free for the semester. He is such a nice guy! He owns a banana plantation, so he will leave a branch full of bananas on our porch for us. I bought a ukalaili, and for my birthday, my awesome friends threw me a birthday party on the beach where we had "hobo" dinners and for a present they got me a pass to the Polonesian Cultural Center where they give ukalali lessons! I am so excited!

Haha ok so for my bday we made foil dinners on the beach and this is me blowing out candles on my birthday pie from Ted's bakery. I cant remember what the name of the pie is but it is chocolate coconut..sooo good! Everyone loves Ted's Bakery. It was no lemon pie but it sure was good!! Earlier that day a few of my friends and I went to the Hukilau Cafe and had pancakes..they have the best pancakes! Coconut, macademia nut, banana pancakes (supposedly Jack Johnson was inspired here..)

This was just a really cool tree. I think this is the kind where the roots come from the top and they grow down into the ground? Does that sound possible? Anyway we were just at this beach by Turtle Bay, I cant remember what its called but its kindof hidden and it was sooo beautiful. We were joking that it felt like we were on a honeymoon by ourselves here ! I love the beaches here because they are never over crowded with people!

This is at the Polynesian Cultural Center. This was started by the church to give college students a job to support them to go to school, now it is one of the most visited tourest spots in Hawaii. They display the different cultures of the different islands around like Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, Hawaii, Tahiti, and Aotearoa.

This is where I live. I love this house! all the houses and buildings are generally designed this way. They all have high roofs because heat rises, and you rarely find air conditioning around here so all the houses are just open to windows and vents. Our house is a duplex, so the front part of it a family lives in and we live in the back part of it. It is a good size place.

This is one of my good friends Emilie. She's alot of fun! She flew standby getting here so she could only take a carry on. So instead of packing clothes and other "essentials," she wore almost all her clothes and packed her camping gear!
